Two things are sold here. Branded manufacturer lines are supplied as a reseller, with the brand, the part number and the documentation stated on the page. Everything else is sourced against your requirement, where the manufacturer, country of origin and warranty are stated in the quote. Either way Chromkit invoices you in Canadian dollars, and on a branded line the goods ship inside Canada with no customs entry on your side. Before you move a validated method onto a different sorbent, ask for samples and run the comparison.

A water wettable polymer, so the bed does not dewet if the cartridge runs dry. That is the commonest reason a silica C18 extraction loses recovery halfway through a batch, and it is the single practical argument for a polymeric sorbent. HLB retains acids, bases and neutrals together, so it is the first choice when you are screening or when the analyte list is mixed. That breadth is also its limit. It holds matrix as readily as it holds analyte, so if you are fighting ion suppression in LC-MS, an ion exchange or mixed mode sorbent will give you a cleaner extract than this one.

Strong anion exchange on a polymer backing. The exchange sites stay charged across the working pH range, so retention of an acidic analyte does not drift with load pH the way it can on a weak exchanger. Use it when reversed phase alone leaves the extract too dirty and the analyte carries a negative charge you can work with. It will not hold neutrals or bases. If your analyte list is mixed, run HLB, or run this as a second step after a reversed phase cleanup.

Strong cation exchange on a polymer backing, for basic analytes. Load at a pH where the base is protonated and it is held by charge rather than by hydrophobicity, which means you can wash with organic solvent hard enough to strip most of the matrix without losing the analyte. Elution needs base in the solvent. It will not retain acids or neutrals, and for a permanently charged base such as a quaternary amine it can hold too well to elute cleanly, which is what the weak exchanger is for.

Weak cation exchange, a carboxylic acid on a polymer. It exists for the analytes that strong cation exchange holds too tightly. A quaternary amine or another permanently charged base comes off a weak exchanger with a change of pH instead of a harsh solvent, so recovery improves and the extract stays cleaner. For a weakly basic analyte it does the opposite and barely retains at all. Check the pKa of your compound before choosing between this and the strong exchanger.

Polymeric C18 bonding on silica at 17 percent carbon, so it is more retentive than a light monomeric bonding of the same chain length. This is the conventional reversed phase cartridge and it is the cheapest way to get a hydrophobic analyte out of an aqueous matrix. One thing to watch before you order. A silica C18 bed dewets if it runs dry during conditioning or loading, and once it does, retention falls away for the rest of that cartridge. If your workflow cannot keep the bed wet, use a water wettable polymer instead.

Non endcapped, so the residual silanols on the silica surface are left available. For a basic analyte that is a second retention mechanism, and sometimes it is the reason a method works at all. It is also why the same method can be hard to reproduce, because silanol activity shifts with the pH of your load solvent and between silica batches. Choose this when you want the mixed retention. If you want hydrophobic retention alone, use the endcapped version.

A shorter chain than C18, so it retains less, and that is the reason to use it. When C18 holds an analyte so tightly that elution needs a solvent strong enough to bring the matrix through with it, moving to C8 lets you elute in something weaker and collect a cleaner extract. For a polar analyte that already elutes early on C18, this will not retain it at all.

Strong anion exchange on silica, for acidic analytes. Silica gives a more rigid bed than a polymer and it is the conventional choice where a method was written around a silica sorbent and you would rather not revalidate. It carries the same handling caution as any silica cartridge. Keep the bed wet, and do not exceed the pH range the silica tolerates, because the bonding does not survive strong base.

Strong cation exchange on silica, for basic analytes. Load at a pH where the base is protonated, wash with organic to remove neutral matrix, then elute with base. Non endcapped, so residual silanols add a second interaction on top of the ion exchange. That helps retention and it is also the part of the method most likely to shift between silica batches, which is worth knowing if you are transferring this method to another lab.

Bare silica, for normal phase cleanup. The sample goes on in a non polar solvent and the polar matrix stays on the bed while the analyte passes through, or the other way round if the analyte is the polar one. This is the standard cleanup for extracts already in hexane or dichloromethane, and it is common in environmental and lipid work. It does nothing useful for an aqueous sample. Get the sample into an organic solvent first, or use a reversed phase cartridge instead.
